Identity Theft

I dont know if this is mentioned in another post and apologies if it is , but I Have just been watching Watchdog who ran an article on identity theft .

It disgusts me that banks and building societies all over the uk are banging on about the seriousness of shredding your documents ,not giving personal info out, keeping your pin number safe, and all this time it has been revealed that these so called authorities have the audacity to just throw our (the customer) personal details in their bins without shredding or giving a thought to the dangers of exposure to all of the above for all and sundary to get their hands on .

It even revealed cut up credit cards placed into the clear bank bags and showed just how easy it is for a fraudster to use these details to obtain goods .

I just hope this exposure on watchdog has made banks etc sit up and review their disposal policies ..

what do you think ?

Re: Identity Theft

Funny enough just done a requested secure update for online shopping which connects direct to the bank with some info only u & the bank know shows up so you can be more certain you are dealing direct with your bank rather than a 3rd party, which is a good idea.

So some banks have been doing improvements to prevention of fraud. MY brother is insured for identity theft fraud.

Re: Identity Theft

appreciate that accyjay but and the reason i didnt enter into that thread was simply because it meant slightly going off topic as this instance was directed at the banks not ensuring customer security and not the individual. But maybe i could have linked the two .cheers

Re: Identity Theft

How dare you mention thought and authority in the same post. You should know authorities don't think.Seriously I think this country is breaking down, the amount of Authorities being investigated or the police involved or going bust is ludicrous. Is it the local authority though or central government?

I too do all my banking online but it does make me wonder sometimes just how long it will take for that to be exposed .I know most banks say they are doing their upmost to improve secure online banking but how are we to feel safe if any print offs may just get thrown into the bin wit6hout shredding
