Re: In the news today...man stabbed to death trying to save son from 50-strong mob
I saw this in the Telegraph yesterday. Up to 50 involved they say, that must have been so frightening.

yes for sure... there is also another man in the times who nearly had his hand cut off with a machete (sp?) in another incident somewhere else. Whilst I do not think crime is on the rise in anyway, I think its scary that it's young people who are my age who are carrying out these attacks. What makes them turn on people like that?

There was another incident in last night's Telegraph about a man in Clayton who attacked a colleague at work with a samurai sword!
What he was doing taking one of those to work I don't know. He must have been planning to attack with it. I've no idea what drives these people to these things but it's frightening . There are people I find irritating at work...I've never considered hacking them to bits though!

I learnt that the fire service/coastal rescue etc don't have to come save you if they dont want to. The police obviously have a duty to, though I'm writing an essay at the moment on this topic so it's quite interesting to see if there will be a claim for negligence, because normally the police have to have knowledge of the victim being in danger etc, and obviously the boys dad wasn't the most likely victim...
hmm we shall see. *removes legal thinking hat*
It is such a terrible shame that these things happen. I wouldn't blame the police though for this happening... it could've happened to anybody trying to step in and help the lad.

Not a lot to say about this one Blazey, without going into the whole social problem, which I am sure you will find lots to write about.
Just extremely sad, and can only send condolences to the family; to the people of Burnley and also to the Police .. whom I am sure are not happy that they did not respond in time to save this poor man, who was only looking out for his son.
I, unlike other people, have great confidence in the police as a whole and am confident there will be a big enquiry to find out what went wrong, to ensure every step will be taken to see that it does not happen again.
As for the gathering of these youths in gangs of 50's .. sorry, old-fashioned, and will always believe in the hands of the parents.

It is very sad as you say blazey.
The delay has been referred to the IPCC - Lancashire Constabulary - think their findings may be of interest.

Re: In the news today...man stabbed to death trying to save son from 50-strong mob
i hesitate to call the police now they dont seem to respond to a lot.
i was once walking my dog on a field when i nearly got run over by a car flying past the trees at goodness knows what speed- i am just glad she was on the lead-i phoned the police and got the spanish inquisition that went something like this ( not exact it was a while ago but you will get the gist)
me:i am ringing to report two joy riders still in the car and still joy riding on a field behind ******* street
police: how do you know they are joy riding?
m: they are on a field that has no official acccess for any vehicles and they are doing quite a speed.
p: are you sure that they have stolen the car?
m: i never said they had stolen the car
p: are you trying to waste our time?
m:no i have just nearly been run over by a car on a field with no vehicle access
p: can you give me the number plate?
m: no they are going too fast for me to read it
p:do you know what speed they are travelling
m: .......stunned silence......NO I DONT
p:i will have to discuss with my supervisor as to whether we will send someone out
end of call
half an hour later the car was on the field burning rather well no police in sight
do i need to say anymore?

Thank you for that Blazey, it was good of you to think of us even though you were a little late with your post as, someone else has already said it has been mentioned.
However our sister site Hyndburn lite doesn't seem to have been informed of this snippet of news so why not head on over there and bring them up to date?
