I have just noticed they have changed the names of the constituencies from the original which was Accrington and Oswaldtwsitle.

Also some council wards (and even polling districts) might be split between constituencies.

This really does appear to be gerrymandering on a huge scale.
Gerrymandering? Do you know something we don't about the independent boundary commission or is this just posturing?

Whats all this about Graham? You've not been on the pop already in the Palace of Westminster, have you? I know there has been a few riots outside this afternoon but this is no excuse to lock yourself in and start the Karaoke Party a day early. I do hope you've not been in a fight - I know there was a big scrap there last thursday with one of your fellow Labour MP's and someone trying to earn an honest living by giving away the local evening rag.

The Electoral Reform Society came up with what they thought the new seats might be. I think Graham has posted a list of what they think will be the constituencies. The list is first the new name of constituency, then the ward name, then the former name of the constituency that the ward was in.

I've quoted on this post because I didn't want to take up too much space, I take it then Graham that these are the "NEW" constituencies as set out by the EC, well excuse the language but they're bloody horrendous, its a total nonsense. I'm taking it that councils such as Hyndburn and Rossendale will not alter, just the Westminster seats, these people don't live in the real world, beam me up Scotty

Shadsworth, Audley and Little Harwood in and Gt. Harwood out , well I suppose thats 'gerrymandering' on the plus side for Labour , though I expect it will make candidate selection a bit more colourful

Just think of all the benefits that you've had up there since you had the good sense to come in with Hyndburn. I must say also I like the peacemaker bit. I've been called a lot of things in the past as you well know, but never peacemaker.

Re: Is Graham The Last Hyndburn MP ?

Gerrymandering because the only basis for this change is picking a number which hurts the other party the most. 600 hurts Labour, 585 hurts Labour and Liberals and 500 hurts the Tories electorally.

The two Scottish isles get to remain outside of this at 22,000 and not much more because they are Liberal Democrat.

The ERS have taken the constituencies and bill and come up with binderies that fit the new rules.

For the first time, the right of public appeal has been withdrawn.
