Is it me?
Picture the scene your 11,12 or 13 year old child is playing out with his or her friends it is growing dark, suddenly they are approached by a group of strangers. Is it a mugging? An attempted kidnapping? Neither.' Hey you guys who wants to be tested for STD's'? Volunteers found off they troupe to have a sample tested.
Now I am a self confessed dinosaur in my PC outlook(remember they did survive for millions of years). But can anyone explain why these professionals are going around testing and supplying underage kids with condoms, contraceptive pills and morning after pills, without parents or guardians being aware?Did you know abortions can be organised without parents or guardian's knowledge?
Is it a residue of Blair's nanny state or is it going to be an ongoing thing.
Of course the PC supporters willl say'STD's are rising and teenage pregnancies are soaring we need to act.'
Well I say, yes someone needs to act I think it may be the parents need
A)Informing of little Wayne and Waynette's problems.
B)The forces of law should have a campaign of prosecution for these underage Lolitas and Don Juans and if found negligent their parents should also be collared.
But of course I am being over simplistic,I don't realise the issues.
After all we can't keep handing out flats to homeless teenage mothers can we?
Well one thing I do realise all this is going on in Accrington and hundreds of other areas throughout our once decent society.
What do we do?
Answers on a post card please!

Re: Is it me?
Reece came home from school with a condom a few months ago, he was only 13 at the time, i was gobsmacked when he told me where he'd got it from, i'm all for early learning and that but i reckon thats more encouragement giving them out at that age

As could we all but it is still not clear if we are to imagine an event or if indeed it took place.
If it did then there are a lot of gaps to be filled.

Tried to picture it, obviously not blessed with your imagination, I just cannot imagine officials of any kind roaming the streets trying to get young children to go with complete strangers to have their genitals tested. That sort of thing would I suspect only be performed in an unofficial capacity by the dirty mac brigade.

Re: Is it me?
I always think the pre-pill generations must have shown great restraint.
Not one of them having got 'caught', whilst unwed.

Re: Is it me?
Well for the doubting Thomas's, the event was real,it did take place and the people involved were 'Health officials'taking urine samples from the kids who volunteered.

No, but that's because they got married at 16.

To prove this you are of course going to put a link in to a site that can confirm such goings on?

Re: Is it me?
I am sure that we all realise that current youngsters didn't(as they seem to think) invent sex.
I know that my Grandparents indulged in premarital sex........they were married whislt my Grandma was in an 'interesting' condition......and their first son was born six months after they were married.
I am pretty sure that the youth of that era were not as promiscuous though.
maybe that was because there were less facilities to obtain contraception, and that having a baby outside of marriage was something which had a definite social stigma attached to it.
Today children seem to be educated to think that a sex life is their 'right'....and while I do not personally want to get into the ethics or morals of this view.....I think that any 'right' has to be balanced by responsibilities.
We are fostering hedonistic values in our youngsters......an 'anything you want, you can have it' mentality. We do not teach restraint. These attitudes to morals and ethics spill over into other parts of our childrens lives. Children also learn by example and there may be elements of society today, who children are influenced by more than their parents. Monkey see, monkey do.
Now I'll duck and watch out for the flying bricks.

I was almost 19, and was still a virgin on my wedding day, despite a two year long engagement.
'Heavy petting' was acceptable and did relieve the tension somewhat.
Society's attitudes have changed a lot since those days.
Virginity is no longer a virtue, and, thinking about it, perhaps it never should have been considered so.
