Some of it is poisonous - they should be paying you to eat it.

Good one Margaret.
Just finished my tea, every thing dug up this afternoon. spuds, carrots, swede, and beans, can't get any cheaper
Not sprayed with any thing.
We are paying to much for food, when you consider that some goods in Asda and Tesco are marked up 200%, and when you see Roll Back and 2 for one bargains you are paying nearer a proper price, but they don't last long enough for any real savings

Grow most of my own stuff too .... and I fish .... and for meat, I go out and shoot some poor creature minding its own business in its natural habitat ... well, not usually, ... I get my meat from the Pig and Olive, a real butcher, selling locally raised beef, pork, and lamb .... But I do think that it is worthwhile to preserve the family farm; it is not only a business, but a way of life ... one well worth preserving. However, I don't think the consumer, faced with higher prices will see it this way. The only answer I can see is govt. subsidies. It's either that or let big Agribusiness take over. And if you don't know what that will mean .....

Re: Is our food too cheap?

I watched a program teh other night about prawn farms in Indonisia. they worked for pennies and lived in squalor as a result of our incessant demand for cheaper prawns . now I am in favour of intensive rearing as per teh chicken thread but this was real people living in crap as a direct result of our demands so was not teh same thing IMHO.

Works the same for manufactured goods too .... Corporations don't move their operations overseas to benefit the indigenous populations .... but we want cheap Nikes etc.

Re: Is our food too cheap?

I didnt think this would be allowed ...

BBC NEWS | UK | England | Bristol | 'Grow veg on dead' plan touted

When my dad died 23 years ago we wanted to put a surround around the grave and put a couple of rose bushes in it and bulbs ... but the church wouldnt let us .. said it was easier to cut the grass without a surround being there and also wouldnt let us put a rose bush there either .. my sister planted daffodil bulbs because at least they will have died off by when they come to cut the grass.

Do you think its taking it too far .. planting carrots above your loved one .. or is it a good idea?
