I don't believe the ban is losing custom..but could be customers who smoke are chosing to visit pubs with the best provisions for smoking.

Of course the smoking ban will have an effect on trade. There are only so many people frequenting pubs, and those that are smokers, given a choice of a private, heated, smoking area, versus standing on the pavement amongst shoppers and pushchairs, will go for the former, and those that can't provide those facilities will miss out on their lolly.

I myself haven't seen a mass migration back to the pubs, of those people who said they used to stay away from pubs and bars because they were too smokey. Most are still stuck at home with their supermarket bought tins, trying to think of the next big thing to grumble about.

think the proof of wether the ban loses custom will show without doubt in the winter months, personally i am 90% sure it already has lost custom in quite a few places.

I would think the ban has lost custom in some places, but I don't think it makes people stay at home rather than go for a drink!

I know a few big suppers who used to go out every Friday in Ossy and Accy, all of whom smoke, and now all of whom stay in.

So many public entertainment venues are now using air 'fresheners'/poisoners that I have had my social life seriously affected.
