Of course the smoking ban will have an effect on trade. There are only so many people frequenting pubs, and those that are smokers, given a choice of a private, heated, smoking area, versus standing on the pavement amongst shoppers and pushchairs, will go for the former, and those that can't provide those facilities will miss out on their lolly.
I myself haven't seen a mass migration back to the pubs, of those people who said they used to stay away from pubs and bars because they were too smokey. Most are still stuck at home with their supermarket bought tins, trying to think of the next big thing to grumble about.
