Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
Used to know a zany barman from down Sarf.,from E.?Lancs......with distinctive burr.......said he was from the aforementioned.....'Lower Accrington'......does it really exist? & yes he did 'play' the A.S.card when we 'slagged' him. Good salt he was.

Re: Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
It does exist, but I don't know of anyone who has yet found it.
Where abouts down "sarf" did this barman character work anyway and what was his name? There are a few exiles from East Lancs down here...he could be known.

Re: Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
The town was originally divided into Old Accrington and New Accrington. I have not heard of Lower Accrington nor indeed the implied Upper Accrington.

Re: Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
Sounds like Noel (forget the surname), mine genial host at the Barley Mow, Duke Street, London (between Oxford Street and Grosvenor Square) in the 90s. If you're reading this, best wishes. Though you probably won't remember me, as a smooth talking Irish Chelsea stalwart. I very rarely went to the bar.
Enjoyed the game Saturday even though I missed the chance to repeat my starring role as Worcester's mascot. I fancy your lot tonight though...

Re: Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
Is it not the case that Lower Accrington is just a corruption in someone’s terminology? I.e. instead of stating Old Accrington they’ve used the term lower………….or perhaps they intended to explain that they are referring to that part of Accrington that sits low in the valley as opposed to the bit that up the sides of the hills.

Re: Is there a place in your town called 'L.A.'
Wonder if upper Accy was around the Hollins lane area with all its posh houses? And lower Accy was the terreced housing of the workers?
