Is there any snow in Accy?

I have noticed that there are no threads regarding snow on Accyweb. Have you had none?
We have got tons of the stuff here in the East Riding. I have not been out of my drive since Tuesday and it is still snowing now. There is at least 18 inches of snow piled on and round my car. There has been no postman for 3 days.
I can remember 1947 when we lived in Intack in Blackburn. There was snow everywhere for days on end.Deep stuff that kept us off work. And 1963 when it was just as bad.
But here in the North-East it is pretty bad. All the schools are closed till at least Monday. The doctors surgeries are closed.People are walking to work as the buses only run when they feel like it. Trains are non-existent.
A lorry driver arrived on Hull Docks from Europe where he had no problems, but within 2 miles he was stuck in snowdrifts. Why does it only happen in this country? Scandinavia gets this weather for 4 months each year and manages quite well. Our infra-structure is lousy Why?

Have another look Jim, think the answer your after is, as you say, places such as Scandinavia have 4 months of this weather guaranteed each winter and provide the resources and equipment to cope, here its different, some years we don't have any snow at all, well very little, and having expensive machinery mothballed for 11 months a years is not workable

Scandinavia know they are going to get 4 months of it. The money they put in to the resources will be used. We can't afford to keep money tied up in resources we don't know will be used every winter when there are other crackpot waste of money schemes that councils and county councils can put money towards

We've got about 4" in Central London. That means a double duvet day and a long weekend starting for most people as of this morning.

Re: Is there any snow in Accy?

A kind local farmer got his tractor out with a snow shovel on the front and he cleared the lane to my front gate.I went out to my car with a spade and dug all around the wheels. I cleared the snow from on top of the car got in and started the engine. The wheels were just spinning so I tried putting some rock salt down and tried again. There is just too much snow so I gave up and made a cuppa.Try again tomorrow. As I finish off this message the snow is absoluely bucketting it down.

Well, now that you mention it

Still, I have to admit that we expect to get hit; and we are prepared for it: mountains of what you call "grit", and no shortage of plows each one as big as a small house. And sidewalk plows and sanders. It usually runs smoothly here, 'cause the crews are out as soon as the weather hits. Things slow down, but rarely grind to a halt. Of course, major blizzards are another thing all together. And in '98 we had the big ice storm: days of freezing rain, power lines down, trees down and general mayhem on the roads.

Still think the only way to deal with it is to try and enjoy .... winter wonderland and all that shlt.
