It Does You Good

I was busy in the kitchen late this afternoon and daughter and granddaughter had gone to Asda. I'm still recovering from the bronchitis+virus that knocked me for 6 and I'm working my last 4 weeks before retirement feeling a bit weak and wobbly.

I heard the door open and there stood what looked like a large bouquet on legs. The bunch of flowers was lowered and Laura's face appeared. She said, "We got you these, Nana, because you're not very well. We thought they would cheer you up." She thrust them into my hands and gave me a hug.

It was just a bunch of asters from Asda, just a hug from a nearly-8 year old but what a tonic, better than any medicine.

It's those unexpected acts of kindness and love that are so much more effective than lotions and potions from the doctors.

Hope they help do the trick, and you're feeling A1 again soon.

A week after I was diagnosed with Parkinson's, three years ago, a lady I only knew to say hello to, did something similarly unexpected, and I'll be for ever grateful for her kindness.

Spug when he was down bought me a bunch of red roses and cooked my tea - wild salmon, new spuds and his version of stir fried veg (dont ask they was boiled). Just as a treat for me.

It would taste good anyway, it's the thought that counts
