Italian Earth Quake

There was an Earth Quake in Northern Italy last night in Sant'Agostino, with 4 fatalities, just wondering how far that's from Cremona where mobertol lives, she hasn't been on today yet, hope she's okay

Re: Italian Earth Quake

Mobertol was logged on at 9.45am today, after the first 'big one'.
The aftershocks are continuing - most recent was 22mins ago.
Live Earthquakes Map

She is northwest of the epicentres and reasonably distant, though I have no doubt she felt the shocks and will be busy helping with the scared livestock on the farm.
My exhusband's family live in Ferrara which is in the midst of it.
I have tried to read the Ferrara local news but my italian is too rusty to understand much.

I'm fine Jay, thanks -didn't feel a thing as I was fast asleep!

It was felt quite strongly though by my eldest who'd come in late and was still awake -said his bed was shaking and the windows rattling -scared him a bit -he was very near the last one a while back in Parma.

We have felt the aftershocks this morning though just the windows rattling a bit and lights swinging...

Looks like there's been some serious damage to various churches, castles and old towers in the area around Modena and Ferrara -two lovely old places.

The death toll is now at 6 - 4 night -shift workers who were killed and two women had heart attacks because of the shock.

My husband was up milking last night as one of our milkers broke his arm last week and he's been in substituting him (they milk at half past two at night!) He didn't feel a thing as our new barn is built to anti-seismic standards but said alll the animals went berserk -they feel it more than us.

Hope none of your extended family suffered any damage or injuries Margaret.

Unfortunately I have had no contact with them since divorce in 1980, but I care about their welfare. I will never forget how they welcomed me into their family in 1978, (despite being a non catholic divorcee).

Glad you are alright Dianne. Margaret, hope your ex husbands family are unharmed too.
Just because you aren't in contact doesn't mean that you don't care....or wish them safe.

Unfortunately in that moment - NO!

Has been quite a while Jay

Joking apart, it's been a bad weekend in Italy -first the terrible bombing in Brindisi which killed a 16 yr old girl and has seriously injured others and now the earthquake...there have been a number of them in the North since the beginning of the year -hope this is the last one.

Re: Italian Earth Quake

OMG -that was a big one somewhere near -feel really weird and shakey!!
Light fittings still swinging as I write...
The dining table I'm sitting at with the computer was going backwards and forwards and all the windows were shaking -I think it's one of the strongest ones I've ever felt.
Off to switch on the news and find out what's happened!

Re: Italian Earth Quake

From the news it looks like another one centered near Modena - they are saying it was about 6 on the Richter scale and buildings have been evacuated across the North of Italy in Bologna, Cremona, Milan and all the way to Bolzano and Genova-so they are saying it was felt over a very wide area. Don't know if there are any victims yet but it seems quite a lot of damage to buildings.

Re: Italian Earth Quake

They are showing on the news that across the North of Italy all schools have been evacuated and the people in all the major towns and cities have abandonned buildings and are out in the streets. It was a strong earthquake and not very deep in the earth's crust from what they are saying -I am still feeling shakey!

Re: Italian Earth Quake

They are now showing that it was felt all the way down to Florence where schools have been evacuated and along the coast of Versilia and in Venice too.

No news of deaths or injuries yet but it's likely as there has been a lot of damage and they have shown buildings collapsing.
