Here's why they can't go up or down the back alley across the road. The bin wagon simply wouldn't get through.

was it the same when we didnt have wheelie bins, did you have to put the rubbish out front, or could the wagons get up then?

I don't think the wagons needed to go up then because the rubbish was put out in black bin bags and the bin wagon parked on the bottom and the3 bin men carried the bags down the back to the wagon.
