There are some interesting ideas in the report though. It suggests removing restrictions on housing in the South, allowing housing to be built on industrial land. This would raise the cost of establishing new businesses in the south so might encourage more business start-ups in the North, improving local economies up here.

I think everyone accepts it is a Conservative think tank. On the one hand it is good to come up with radical idea's and that has to be welcomed. It is also very close to David Cameron and other Tories and that is worrying.

Its a right-leaning think-tank, conservative with a small c. I am not in the slightest worried, Cameron calls it insane, and they are committed to regeneration in the North.

Think tanks of all parties say the craziest things - a good leader and party will take the best ideas and throw away the rest.

If Cameron thinks a conservative, with a small c, think tank's ideas are insane, just how far to the left is he willing to go in the pursuit of securing votes?

I compared them to John Major's government, and you can't get more scathing than that.

Careful there bud, if you keep painting such rosy pictures an English Armada full of limeys will be on its way to sunny Spain .... Spain sounds ok, but it's kind of small and full of people who don't speak English (kinda like Quebec, eh) ... and no winters to speak of .... and that Med thing, not much bigger than a great lake is it

I think that you will find that you could lose all the five great lakes plus all the others in Canada in the Med and still have room for some more.
