Jeremy Vine & Baby formula milk

http://www.hitched.co.uk/Chat/forums/t/128396.aspx

So a Customer got a bit hot under the brassier in Boots Chemists because an assistant said she should still be breast feeding, o.k. the assistant was a touch tactless but should it have taken such a large amount of time in a peak hour radio show yesterday?

To me it just seemed yet another storm in a 'D' Cup!

That depends on how well she can express herself!

Re: Jeremy Vine & Baby formula milk

Heard a little of this discussion whilst having a fag break in me car.
Not quite the whole picture Less, she had tried to use her Boots reward card against SMA, and was told that she couldn't do this as, according to the law, not allowed to offer rewards against powdered milks. Laid out by the World Health Association. It was at this stage the assistant stated that she should be breast feeding anyway.

The lady had attempted to breast feed, but found herself in a position where she had to spend quite a lot of her time visiting her sick husband in hospital and found it difficult to express milk so that the baby could be fed whilst she was away, so needed a supplement for these occasions. Not that she explained or should have bothered to explain to this opinionated assistant !

The shop assistant had absolutely no right telling this lady she should be breast feeding. Whether she had tried breast feeding or not is nothing to do with anybody else.

Whist I understand that there is a campaign to get mothers to breastfeed, it will not be satisfactory for some mothers....for a variety of reasons.
this lady could have been giving her baby SMA powdered milk for medical reasons - she could have been on medication which meant breast feeding was unwise.
It was no damn business of the assistant, and she should not have made a comment, and Boots should be dealing with the assistant appropriately.

Agree Margaret ... wouldn't like any assistant to tell me to stop smoking if they didn't have my brand in...

The point was more concerned with not offering rewards though against powdered baby milk, and how the law was sort of controlling our choices, the assistant's rudeness was just an add-on.

Of course the assistant was very wrong and I hope she is, at least, reprimanded by her management. Some women are unable to breast feed and some choose not to. It's their business, nobody else's.

On whether Boots points should be used for baby milk. When I was a regular Boots shopper you could only use points against certain items - not all - and baby milk was far from the only thing they didn't cover. It used to annoy me!

I think mothers should be able to make up their own minds......I am against being dictated to by the health fascists....which is what is happening in this instance.
By all means make information and resources available to those who do wish to feed their babies themselves, but do not discriminate against those who do not wish to breast feed.

And before anyone asks.....yes, I did breastfeed.....for 10 months...my choice.

Boots can't give points on formula milk, not allowed to , same as they can't give points on prescription items and postage stamps, I was told it's because the company could be seen to be "bribing" customers with points in order to get their custom in the case of milk, and on postage stamps and prescriptions it's down to the fact that whoever sells these gets the same revenue and Boots could be seen as offering the points as an incentive.
Stiil the best loyalty scheme on the high street, and you still get folk moaning about what they can spend their healthy start vouchers on, no they don't cover Lacoste aftershave and razor blades.......

Hey, I know I put this in general chat but, look at the first post, I really don't think this should be a serious, topic.

by the way katex, the quote in that thread does mention what you waffled on about.

Please can we all get back to the real world where a lactose sensitive woman, (the silly beggar that got upset), doesn't take it out on, another etc, etc, just because she was probably trying to offer advice?

If You lot can't sort it out between yourselves, how can we men ever be safe to say, 'Yes, your Bum does look big in that!'

Yes, I know, one little smiley will not heal the world.

( Less Duck's and expects the one in seven on here suffering PMT to react).

I know Less, and I think it's blown out of all proportion but I can't sit back and see my employer get bad mouthed by people who don't understand the whys and wherefores. I wouldn't have dreamt of giving advice of that sort to the lady in question, how she feeds her child is up to her!
ps I don't do PMT !

Re: Jeremy Vine & Baby formula milk

By chance I listened to this show and the feeding issue is a matter of personal choice but let's keep it in perspective, the assistant made a mistake, but I've always found the Boots staff at our pharmacy, Rawtenstall Health Centre, to be very, very good indeed and when you think of some of the xxxxxxx they have to put up with I don't know how they do it
