That's a shame - I got a new camera from there about six months ago, so did Chris.

Re: Jessops / Blackburn

usual thing of internet only dealers being able to undercut shops. Its also a very competitive market with small margins

T'internet is all very well if you know what you want but I like to be able to go into a shop and have a look at things in real life. I shall miss this shop.

Used to be my old Our Price unit; opened it from scratch years ago; had Jools Holland there to officially open it; he turned up in a fabulous grey Daimler. Lovely bloke. Awful dandruff. Signed everything for anybody.

No business is safe these days.

True, I too prefer to use local shops where possible. When buying my 400D I tried my very best to buy it in Accrington but the shop just couldn't give me a definate date for delivery when I could go to Blackburn and buy it from stock. When it comes to new toys I can only be so patient!

Re: Jessops / Blackburn

Jessops price match and will drop there prices in line with another shop.. They used to do it with the internet.. I got over 100 quid knocked off when I proved a website was selling a panasonic FZ10 miles cheaper... But then they stopped price matching against the internet and only shops...

I once needed a camera I couldn't find (olympus c2100.. out of production but to this day has a cult userbase)).. I was looking in the jessops in lancaster at used stuff and spoke to the manager and he said to leave it with him and he would check all the other stores to see if they had what I wanted... Next day he had found it.. and we got it sent from down south.. Now jessops has closed there used equipment part of the store so thats another downside.

Finally.. Jessops would give a full 1000% money back on any camera you bought if you returned it within a month with no questions asked... in other words even if not faulty or broke... Thats akin to a try before you buy policy that the americans have but we don't (As far as I know)

Sad to see them closing shops down but there not what they used to be.. ordering pictures online and picking them up an hr later was the only real use for me nowerdays. Will miss that.

Re: Jessops / Blackburn

They kept changing their price match policy, sometimes on and sometimes off, they had a spell of just price matching only cameras2u for a while - their own company!
Some stores still do 2nd hand, I was looking at lenses last week in one of the Scotland branches, maybe its just selected stores?
Anyway, we should just think ourselves lucky they never taken over Garth Dawsons or we could now be without a camera shop in Accy
