I prefer the direct approach. On a census form I stated that I was English and unilingual. Then I answered all the questions in French and wrote "manger de la merde" in all the boxes I felt were intrusive.

But as Less rightly observed, it would have been most unfair to have a go at the poor Gas engineer......so a subtle approach would have been appropriate for the engineer...now the responses on the form...well that is a fish of a very different colour!

Je suis d'accord .... oops, sorry ... I agree with what you say. And one can have fun with the forms. One can be brutally direct and creative at the same time
