Labour Party Conference
Well, it's been the Labour Party Conference this week and Tony Blair doesn't seem to have done particularly well out of it.
One person that did go down well was Rishton's very own Councillor, Claire Hamilton. Apparently she gave a really good speech about our community wardens and how we have a very badly run Conservative Council.

Re: Labour Party Conference
having been labour all my life,i thought they came out of it really badly, the stewards treatment of the 82 year old pensioner for shouting nonsense capped a bad week, and then for him to be detained on anti-terrorism legislation reminded me of pre-war hitler rallies, i honestly do not think they know the meaning of SOCIALISM.

Re: Labour Party Conference
I think Claire is just being a good politician. It does not matter what she really thinks about the wardens, it's only important what she says she thinks about them. At the moment it is a good band wagon to be on. When the steam runs out of her cause she will no doubt find something else to believe in to keep her in the public eye. Politics is about smoke and mirrors not what people really believe in. Thats why I would never make a good politician, I am too honest and say what I really think, not what people want to hear. ( This is not a dig at Claire personally just my observations of politicians ).
As far as those goons man handling that poor elderly gentleman, he should press charges for being assaulted, he has good video evidence. How could he be held under anti-terrorism legislation? Was he carrying an exploding walking stick. Then again you can get walking sticks that are also a rifle. OMG he really was an assassin!!

Re: Labour Party Conference
These conferances are there to convince the public of what they are doing is right. Unfortunately it shows how blinkered and narrow minded they are. President Blair is staying going staying going this is worse than any women. At least they can make their minds up a lot quiker.

Re: Labour Party Conference
I think that the highlight of the week was David Hockney told Julie Morgan MP what he thought of her: “I think you are too bossy, chum. You are dreary, absolutely dreary.” Even though Hockney is a Yorkshireman it is a pity that there are not more like him about.
As a result, Mr Hockney leaps up to number three in my list of favourite celebrities. Had he said this to the Blair's or Brown he would, of course, have gone up to number one!

Re: Labour Party Conference
The scariest part of the whole thing was reported in teh newspapers today. Over 600 people were 'detained' under teh Terroism act. This is absolutelt disgraceful. These people could have been held for 3 MONTHS WITHOUT ANY CHARGE!!!!!!
So if you think that we have free speech in this country any more you may need to think again.

I'll go along with that one, what happened to "freedom of speach" that was bad, what a sight on TV an 82 year old man and a "bouncer" not a steward
