Last Nights Council Meeting
Labour's budget defeated. 2.9%. Conservatives passed 4.9%
A long list of Government funded announcements.
Councils Finances Long Term financial outlook poor (surviving off Govt handouts)
From our view;
• Velco fastened recycled bags are to be introduced (Labour idea taken on by Conservatives) We reduced costs from £150,000 to £38,000
• Working Mens Clubs and Cricket Clubs to receive 80% rate relief. £10,000
• Labour Councillors (independent) Neighbourhood Management projects to take over failing Area Councils
I make this point because Jaysay and AndrewB howl we don't contribute which has never been true. Again 'the race to the bottom' they try to promote.

Re: Last Nights Council Meeting
I think we should all feel very special that Hyndburn needs a rise 1.9% above national average, must be because we all have lavish lifestyles and can afford it

Re: Last Nights Council Meeting
how does it save money giving us something that will probably blow away on bin day anyway?

Re: Last Nights Council Meeting
It was recycling day here today but because it is more convenient for me to use my blue box for cans, (I put the box outside, the blue sack just blows away and sprinkles cans everywhere), I got yet another letter through the door telling me I'm a very naughty boy.
Yeah right, look at it from my point of view it takes two months for me to fill so if you don't want to deal with a little inconvenience it can always go into my wheelie bin my contribution won't make much difference but at least you can see everything in the blue box!

Sorry to disappoint you but they didn't. I did get a full carafe of water all to myself though.

Unfortunately the bags will only be issued in Central ward (thats what Peter Britcliffe said last night)- as a pilot scheme.
Speaking personally -I live at the top of a cul-de-sac and am fed up when it is windy on recycling day having a load of the cans and plastic bottles ending up in my front garden.
The labour proposals were for the bags to be delivered all over the borough.
