Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets
I also remember this guy who came around with a horse and cart and collected old rags, for which he would give you a goldfish.

Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets
This is a funny thread, the last one I saw was in ossy yesterday around 7 o'clock when I was waiting for the bus. Again it was probably the same one already mentioned thats small and cars struggle to get around it on the road.
I personally think its a hazard as its not easy to see really.
I know theres more than one horse and cart owner in ossy though, i've seen some women on a bigger one about 2 month or so back aswell.

Jackson's milk horse was still going strong in the 90s.I remember us always getting stuck behind it in the car going up Dill Hall Lane on the way to school!

Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets
I don't know if this counts, but I saw a massive pile of steaming horse turds in the middle of Ontario St. today! I didn't see the perp, or his cart; but it is wedding season and the guys from Wolfe Island bring over thier horses and carts to give drunken wedding guests a safe and celebratory ride.

Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets
I helped a few times on a milk delivery round using a horse and cart.(it was from Barnes farm behind Sparth Road Clayton-le-Moors. ) Basil Brierley's wife was called Sally and they had a greengrocers shop.

Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets
just remembered used to be a place down clayton (bottom end) somewhere Trelfalls, you could hire an hoss n cart for the day for 10 bob, was very useful when they demolished the flat-roofed milnshaw estate, you could get a fair few copper back-boilers on one of them carts. or so i was told pmsl that would be some time mid 60s i think.

Soz I get carried away when I'm on here, that horse bolted when it was on Howarth Avenue and ran over a little boy. He was a real mess and I haven't really been to keen on the brutes since
