I'm not sure but do the Amish in their horse drawn buggies count? I often see them especially when driving up in Pennsylvania and the Shenadoah Valley (my happy place).

Re: Last time you saw an Horse 'n' cart on the streets

I remember the Rag'n'Bone man coming round when I was little -used to scare me -must have been the bones! i reckon he stopped around mid-1970's.
Also remember Dolly who pulled Jackson's milk delivery cart too - do you remember the white horse they had before -think his name was Bobby... we had many an anxious moment getting past them on Dill hall Lane too on our way to school in Ossy! Mr. Jackson's accident was during a terrible storm in about 1978 I think -I was out on my pool round (Littlewooods pools and Spot the Ball!) that evening too on Dill Hall Lane and the council estate, and if i'm not mixing up 2 separate incidents a group of teenagers were struck by lightening that day on St. Cristopher's playing fields - I think one was killed unfotunately....
As for other horses and carts, my nanna , who lived on Exchange Street told me about them getting deliveries of coal down the backs by a cart - I remember a lorry coming down until about 1978 when they got a gas fire...perhaps someone else remembers the coalman...?
I know my Grandad's family had a horse and trap (they lived on Rockmount in Altham) because his sister , my great aunt Lucy once told me about their yearly "holiday" at Whitsuntide down to Whalley Nab for a picnic -women and small children aboard and all the others alongside -apparently it took a whole day there and back! Imagine that!!!
