Laugh? I thought I'd never get dry!

Well it had to happen, I'm just surprised that it took this long.

What aspect of our culture is next on the revisionists list?

Dismissing centuries of Catholic belief, the guidelines go on to state that Communion bread and wine should not be referred to as 'the body of Jesus' or 'the blood of Jesus' because it suggests "a cannibalistic consumption of human flesh".
Is it now too difficult to teach our young that these are 'symbolic' representations rather than actual fact?

Whatever happened to transubstantiation? Have we got a new phobia here? Transubstantiaphobia?

These new guidelines are apparently being put forward to the Norfolk County Council early next week for approval and have been looked on favourably up to this point, but I notice that Nationals like the Daily Mail are picking up on the story now so maybe the council will be too embarrassed to accept this dribble

The materials and terms they are withdrawing is fact and not just 1 teachers personal opinion. If Christians call it the Holy Ghost and Jews the Wailing Wall etc - why can't the children be told this?

As any teenager will tell you, there is a easy joke/double meaning to anything if you look hard enough. No wonder kids don't know anything when teachers aren't allowed to teach.

It maybe of interest to note that my 9 year old daughter has not yet been taught the Ten Commandments! This came to light at weekend when she asked what was in the Ark of the Covenant. She knew about Moses and the Red Sea but nothing more. Is it any wonder we have such problems with disrespect and vandalism when children at their most educational are not being taught the fundamental differences between right and wrong?

I think they expect parents to do that.

Re: Laugh? I thought I'd never get dry!

Can I just point out that my child is a bright ,intelligent girl who wouldn't do anything disrespectful and has a good understanding of right and wrong . I was merely pointing out that the largest school in Hyndburn doesn't seem to regard the 10 Commandments as part of it's religious studies curriculum.

Whether it's down to the parents or not surely it warrants at least a cursory mention!

Re: Laugh? I thought I'd never get dry!

It’s getting bloody stupid isn’t it? What is happening to this country? Will our children know anything about their own religions or heritage to pass on to their children? We seem to have lost all sense of perspective; our schools no longer teach our kids respect, discipline or anything that gives them any sense of community…..If we don’t start to act against these stupid idiots we have preparing our children for adulthood we will all suffer as we reach our old age.

Re: Laugh? I thought I'd never get dry!

It's just not part of the curriculum these days. RE is taught more like geography and history with lots of factual info about different religions. I'm not saying it's a good thing, we've just lost our traditional ways along with all the stupidity like "baa baa black sheep" being banned for being racist. How can a flippin sheep be racist? Did anybody say this black sheep was inferior to a white one even? All they ask is if it's got any wool. Seems a reasonable enough question to me. The world has gone totally mad.

Re: Laugh? I thought I'd never get dry!

I don't recall that I was taught alot about RE in primary school. I went to a CofE school - so we prayed every day, sang hymns & the vicar came & told us stories every week, but I don't think we ever had specific RE lessons. At secondary school (not attached to any religion) I had to take a complusory RE class which taught the basic values of the 5 most popular religions without the teacher giving any personal views or preferences towards any of the religions.

I think it is up to the parents to send their children to Sunday school etc to learn more about specific religions (especially at primary age) if that is want they want, although, if RE is complusory at secondary level, they may aswell teach it properly.

I would think that most sheep breeders would be happy if all their sheep were black if each one can guarantee Three bags full.

That all depends on the size of the bags.
