Yes the idea of socialism is still around , but there's not the slightest evidence that the people of this country want it .

There was a degree of socialism in the Attlee led Labour government , but none in the Labour gvernments led by Wilson , Callaghan , Blair , and Brown .

Watched an interview with Tony Benn not long ago JCB, he was asked if it was time for Socialism to make a return, his answer, NO

Sadly Tony Benn is correct, society has changed far too much (fer the worse) fer it to return.

Despite his helping to cause chaos in the Labour Party in the 1980s , thus bringing about New Labour , I do like to listen to Tony Benn . He speaks good English and refuses to indulge in personality assassination .

Funny enough JCB I like listening to him speak, don't agree with a lot he says, but at least he sticks to his principles and he's also a great orator. Unlike the modern day Labour party who sold their principles for electability, then tried to distance themselves when it all went tits up.

Oi, Mr Yates, I may be sitting in the lobby of the Holiday Inn, downtown Memphis (four blocks away from Sun records, Cashy), but I've got my eye on you! So, have you given up being a plastic Manc and started supporting Stanley or what??

Anyway I'm off to Beale Street to have a few beers and watch James Govan and the Boogie Blues Band. Bye, y'all.

Anyway, the new Labour leader will be announced at quarter to five this afternoon. I bet those clowns at the BBC interupt the footy results to let us know who's won.

Mancie should be happy, socialist Ed won.
So Labour is back to the 70's and 80's then.

Pretty obvious you are having a great time Wyn - good on you. Never got to Memphis, S.C./Al/Az/Md/Ut and California were the only places I worked or visited.
Stephen Fry in America last night brought back some memories - Monument Valley to Tucson, including the mothballed aircraft at Davis-Monthan Airbase and Old Tucson the film town.
