Lightbulb Lights Out Lancashire

Is anyone participating in 'Lights Out Lancashire' on 29th February with Rock FM?

Re: Lights Out Lancashire

I notice that in the explanatory notes the organisers ask readers to envisage various county landmark buildings plunged into darkness for an hour, one of them being Blackpool Tower. It will be a bit disappointing for spectators waiting for this to happen since the Tower is not normally illuminated at this time of the year. A minor quibble, I know, but I couldn't resist. I wonder if Lancashire County Council will be doing their bit by turning out the lights on all the motorways and main roads?? Now that would make a statement.

Re: Lights Out Lancashire

Perhaps they could turn it on for an hour before hand and an hour after so that we may see it be plunged into darkness!

HAHA made me and a few in the office chuckle.

Maybe they should have just come to us @ UU first and saved everyone the hassle and we could have knocked the power out no problems

I may mention to my gaffer shortly if we are partaking in this 'event'. Would be a poor do really if we didn't show our support.

Re: Lights Out Lancashire

I don't go in for all this energy saving twoddle. Its 2008 we should have more energy than we need. This and previous Governments should have been investing in Nucular power for years. I know it is a touch messy but it is currently the only 'sort of sustainable' energy supply we have at the moment. Yeah I know we are fannying around with wind and wave and solar but the technology is not their yet. Build a few more nuclear power stations for a few decades while they sort out this nuclear fusion thingy. Then we will have enough energy to sort out all the CO2 we have produced burning dinosaurs.

It may be, no one said that the event had to be safe. Anyway it might reduce the population a bit - another reduction in the carbon footprint, everything is grist to the mill!

Speaking of Carbon Footprint and Street Lights, has anyone seen what is going on at whitebirk roundabout? Is there really any need for so many lamposts? Did Lancs CC get a job lot in that they are finding difficult to shift or what?

It has been thought up by ugly men who want an equal chance of a marriage proposal in leap year

I work at Whitebirk and use the roundabout several times a day. I can say It has been a complete nightmare.

Apparently it was given the all clear this morning and was announced on local radio stations that the Lights were in full working order. Well they sure weren't at dinner time!!

When nipping out for lunch the lights coming up to the junction were on Red there were a few of us in cars waiting to go for a good 5 minutes and the person in front of me got restless and carried on forward, jumping the lights. They eventually changed and everyone carried on but the cars to the left and right didn't seem to be go Red and their's stayed on Green the whole time. Almost like a free for all.

On my way back from my dinner the lights were flashing Red, Amber & Green continuosly for about half a second a time. It was almost like playing chicken. No one seemed to realise what was going on. Whilst turning left I shouted to one of the blokes to say the lights weren't working and he replied in jest 'Get your t*ts out and we will' . It's a good job I can take things on the chin but if most women would be disgusted!

I just hope it works out a success.. surely it can't be worse than it was before.

Aye we go by there on way to college(and back) every day, bloody nightmare, especially when the geniuses did road works on blackburn road on the same day as when the roundabout wasnt flowing. Effectively blocking all traffic between Accy and Blackburn, best way to go ended up being over top roads and down through Bash !

Re: Lights Out Lancashire

Just had a look at that and from the website:

We're already counting down and at 11am and 6pm on the 29th Feb join us and the rest of Lancashire as the Landmarks that make our county famous fade into the black sky of the night. Imagine Blackpool Tower plunging into darkness, Blackburn Cathedral disappearing into the night or the lights going out on the Harris Museum....

Now 11am - its daylight so why bother turning the lights out ...........and 6pm its not really a black sky is it?
If you want to know what its like driving on a road without lights - go over the highway in the sky and all the lights on the roundabout are going up the hill are off, well it depends sometimes they work and sometimes they dont. A friend of mine reports it everytime theyre off and LCC say its nowt to do with them its United Utilities - and they say there is something wrong with the transformer or something like that and the amount of traffic on the road keeps jolting it and so it wont work...

I can be a sort of representative for UU for the site if people like If you get me the name of the road I will personally get you an update and chase it up. The amount of traffic on the road doesn't have any effect on the load on the Transformer so I find that strange that someone would say that but stranger things have happened at our place. Like I said I am willing to help where possible
