I enjoy the Python stuff and Goons;read all of Spike Milligan's books,a comic genius but like so many others who make people laugh he was a very depressed individual.

Can't believe that Phoenix Nights hasn't had a mention on here yet!
Also a big fan of Dinner Ladies and the classic Acorn Antiques!

Vicar of Dibley is funny in a nice gentle way, like a nice, soft warm blanket on a cold winters night. Or a bowl of Heinz tomatoe soup, when you have a cold.

yeh the viar of dibley is pretty good. father ted is better though. i like a lot of comedies. i can't decide which i like the most.

Phoenix Nights, was mentioned, but only by someone saying they didn't like it. lt's a classic, though Paddy & Max, the sort of sequel was appalling.

Yes but compared with the really well drawn characters in Phoenix, it didn't make me laugh as much.
Face painting with spray cans still creases me.

yeh i think phenix nights was better but max paddy was fair funny as well. the best phenix nights is the one where the 2 bodygaurds build that robot and flatten all the others in that robot competition.

No, l'm afraid it didn't ring my bell very much!
The best bit for me was the two of them in the mobile home in the opening titles singing.

Little Britain is great, it is a bit repetitive but still funny, I have tickets to see them next year, The League of Gentlemen (series 3) is a favourite of mine, there's a lot of good comedy around at the moment, though dont really get The Smoking Room, tried several times but it still doesn't click.

I think Vicar of Dibley is good because all the characters are so well-drawn. I think the sex-mad (or maybe just mad) Owen is wonderful and Alice and Hugo are superb, especially Alice. I hated the ending of the last Christmas show, though, when Dawn French got all po-faced about the problems in Africa, no doubt due to her husband's influence. Yes, I'm right up there with the sentiment and the message and I do care, but this was not the right place for it.

Fools and Horses has been flogged to death and the only character I ever found funny in Last of the Summer Wine was Thora Hird's - the rest is abysmal. Phoenix Nights was good but Peter Kay's funnier as a stand-up. I loved The Good Life in the 70s, when it was relevant, but the point of it is lost after 30 years. Most American sitcoms leave me cold.

I still think you'd have to go a long way to beat the Monty Python sketch "Four Yorkshiremen". As my late husband was a Yorkshireman and my dad, though born in Darwen, was brought up in Yorkshire until the age of 10, I find this sketch absolutely hilarious, and it never "dates". It could even be translated to "Four Lancashiremen", couldn't it? Who hasn't listened to 4 middle-aged men from humble backgrounds, who've "made it" in the world, competing with each other about how awful their childhood was? My own dad, who "made it", would happily tell you how he (half) left school at 13 to be a part-timer at Steiners, "And I was so small I had to stand on a box......"

is it actually any good ive never watched any of it , that league of gentlemen was meant to be funny but after watching it i couldnt see it myself

Victoria Wood? Acorn Antiques was mentioned, [now a musical in the west end.] l love her & Julie Walters. The film they did set in Blackburn, & filmed nr. Tommy Balls was really funny- 'Pat & Margaret.' A motorway caff woman reunited with her long lost sister, who is basically Joan Collins. Hilarious, & like a lot of comedy tinged with sadness.
