Re: Local election candidates etc

I am a big believer in going on the Knocker, but it is vertually impossible for the candidate to call at every house in his or her ward. My thoughts are if someone wants your vote they should ask personally for it or at least their representative does. That is the main reason I have never tried to win a council seat, I stood three times, once in St Adrews in poll tax year, when I knew I was not going to win, but as Chairman of the Oswaldtwistle Ass at the time I thought it was my duty to put myself in the front line as to say, the other occasions were Spring Hill which the Tories haven't won since Adam was a lad. I am not a big believer in leaflets which are rammed full of facts and figures, I always used the the idea that any leaflet is only as good as it takes to read from the front door to the dustbin and I'm sure lots of people on here wil say amen to that

Well, with a short time to go, I've recieved no literature through the door, and nobody knocking asking for my vote, from any party.

Spoke too soon.

Just had a leaflet from my Conservative candidate in St. Andrew's ward in Ossy.

Didn't take long to read.

Though was interested at the boast that the Tories have opened two new health centres in Hyndburn.

That may be true, but because a lot of the services available at Oswaldtwistle Clinic have been transferred to the new health centres, and it's total closure seems imminent, the fact that people in the ward, such as the elderly and young mothers, now have to travel further to receive care or treatment, it's not something I'd be shouting about in an election pamphlet.

Re: Local election candidates etc

A representative from the Conservative party knocked on our door and gave us a leaflet that said 'Sorry you were out when I called'! I note though that he intends to give all under 21's in Hyndburn free swimming lessons so that's all right then.

Sounds like the Tory leaflets are all the same with a different candidate's name on ; mine also boasts of the 2 new health centre and dog dirt is a priority too ! My Tory candidate is an ex Lib DEm who isn't telling us anything about himself whatsoever ! Graham's leaflet on the other hand is informative and colourful and does actually have photos of our ward on it.
Should be in the bag there Graham !

How come you have had a Conservative leaflet ? I havn't had one. Having said that, it doesn't sound like I'm missing too much. Still only had Graham's leaflet, nobody on the knock as yet

Nahhh, you can have it. We get enough rubbish through the letterbox. Just wondered where mine had gotten to
