Re: London Underground explosions

OK guys....just to give you the latest update from here.

I am at the junction of Commercial St & Shoreditch High St: the former leads to Aldgate (2 dead latest) and the latter to Liverpool St. To the east of this is the Royal London Hospital. Commercial St is sealed off, so all the ambulances are detouring right outside my window to get to the Royal. It's been constant sirens for the last 4 hours.

The tube is closed, the buses are empty and returning to base. Mobiles are backin operation, but the service is scanty. A lot of buisnesses have shut down and told their people to gt home, any way how,and lots are wlking I just popped briefly inthe pub round the corner -it was packed. Everyone watching the news.

There are all sorts of rumours flying around, but those of you with a telly on will probably have a better idea of what's happened than I have.

It' raining heavily, whichyou might not see on t'telly.

I'll keepyou informed of what I know here.

Re: London Underground explosions

Glad to hear Tealeaf, Pendy and Cashmans son are ok.
I'm sorry for all the people injured and killed but by what happened in America we got off lightly. Hope there is no more carnage.

Re: London Underground explosions

http://www.guardian.co.uk/terrorism/...523423,00.html

Fears that Muslims may be become the victims of reprisals following today's London bombings have prompted a warning for them to stay indoors. Massoud Shadjareh, chairman of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, appealed for calm and condemned the bombings.

He said: "The Islamic Human Rights Commission utterly condemns this attack, but now we appeal that there should be no further victims as a result of reprisals."

There was no immediate confirmation of who was responsible for the attacks, but a claim was made on the Al-Qal'ah [Fortress] internet site, by a group calling itself the Secret Organisation Group of Al-Qa'ida of Jihad Organisation in Europe.

Mr Shadjareh said some members of the Muslim community suffered a backlash following the September 11 2001 terror attacks in the United States, and the Madrid train bombing in March 2004.

He said he was "very concerned about a backlash" and called on British Muslims to "remain vigilant and calm and stay indoors".

He said: "IHRC is advising Muslims not to travel or go out unless necessary, and is particularly concerned that women should not go out alone in this climate.

"In the event of being attacked, IHRC urges victims not to retaliate and to report the matter to the police and appropriate authorities."

Re: London Underground explosions

This is the latest:

Looking out my window , there are masses of people walking north back home. I can't see any buses at all now, but the sirens on the police and ambulance vehicles are still going strong as they head towards the Royal Hospital
There are huge areas of the city now cordoned off, including the area immeadily to the south-east of where I sit and then there is another massive cordon to the west. Apparently, they are "scenes of crimes". Normally, I only have a half hour walk home or a bus, but this may now be an hour.

Morale is high; the pub was packed at lunchtime. The anger has yet to begin.

Re: London Underground explosions

I suppose a lot of people will be only to happy to accept that it may take a lot longer to get home and may pull together sharing cabs etc... and just generally helping each other out
