Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
it was on the tele tonight that you cant wear a red rose ,(WHO SAYS I CANT ?on st georges day ,well that is the sort of statement to get folk,s backs up ...i am going to dig out the flag that we hung from the window when it was the world cup.and hang it out again.
by the way i signed the petition on burnley web too ,,,and i started a gaming thread ,about all things english ,no offence to irish ,scottish or welch.,so i will be first to be clapped in irons....

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
How can they ban wearing a red rose on St George's day if it's permitted to wear shamrock on St. Patrick's? A red rose is the symbol of love every bit as much as a poilitical symbol. Load of asterisks to the PC brigade. Let them try and stop me. They'll be banning poppies on Remembrance Day next.

I always take the day off on my birthday. You're quite welcome to all join me if you want to make it a national holiday.

That's only because Labour started using it as a symbol a few years ago. The rose has been the symbol of woman hood for a long time so may be that's what they're objecting to?

I think most of the population feel the same Cashman, but who is going to stand up and bring this pc s*** to an end. Papers, politicians, our schools? All of them are to s*** scared to act against the Whitehall mandarins and liberal social policy ****ers that infest our higher colleges and universities. We can only hope that the generation we have given life too will feel like us and act to change the system from within.

Totally agree with you. If it does wind a few up then at least it will be a step in the right direction...............We have done well in past wars but apathy can kill a nation even in peace time. It time we all got off are arses and made our point in some way.

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
Article in today's Daily Express about a guy who has been told to take his flags down outside his business because they distract the traffic. Apparently it's rubbish because they didn't tell anyone to take the St Patricks day flags down.

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
There is nothing racist about having pride in YOUR country! Being told that it is wrong is racist! I've no problem with others flying flags etc on their day! So why can't we?
If you have them get your little car flags etc out! They can't do us all!

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
Think I said on another thread earlier that there is a shop around the corner from us where he flies little St George's flags all year along the front of his shop, and a very big one on St George's day, because he's proud to be English. He is actually of Asian origin, but he considers himself English, which is GREAT!
Anyway, where do Labour get off stealing (yes, stealing) the red rose? The red rose has, since about the 1400s been the symbol of Lancashire - why do you think it was called "The War of the Roses"? I wonder if they would have got away with stealing the white rose from Yorkshire? I think we should have an uprising of all us Lancastrians, preferably on St George's Day, and demand that Labour give us back OUR symbol. IT ISN'T THEIRS!

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
The Stockport council have relented on their ban......now the trader can give away the red roses with purchases.......Tuebrook have also said that Churchills (the butchers) who put up a whole roadway of flags can keep them up as long as they are flown properly(?!).
Thameside council are going the whole hog and having street entertainment......knights, battles etc.....
I wonder if these people have been looking at accyweb.

Re: Make St'George's Day a Bank holiday!
So instead of complaining let's start claiming the day back as our own. Let's decide how we're going to celebrate. Screw the bureaucrats and politically correct brigade, let's all be proud of it. So, this is what I plan to do - wear a rose as it's the national flower of England (not because those Labourites stole it), put a flag up above my computer and one in my car, dig out the flag from the world cup and put it in my window and finally, have fish and chips for tea as I consider that to be the English national dish.
What else can we do?
