Many Happy Returns

If you fell out big time at work with your colleague(& supervisor),wich resulted in the supervisor having a complaint against them, then the said supervisor gave you a present & card on your birthday, would you (discreetly)tell them you appreciated the thought & cost but could'nt accept them or take them as though it was all water under the bridge? An attempt by supervisor to get complaint dropped, lets be pals(until it happens again, its happened before) or a genuine olive branch?Or do you think the worker was right to stick by their principles & sod the hurt feelings & more possible tension on the shop floor.I know the worker felt bad about returning the present but had to stand by their principles.

Re: Many Happy Returns

As a supervisor/manager of people you have to give an employee a roasting if they are doing something wrong one minute then discus work with them the next minute - its called getting on with the job and being a good supervisor/manager.

Maybe that is what's going on. You can't work for someone if you can't speak with them. Its called a breakdown in trust between employer and employee and it usually states in your contract/terms and conditions that a breakdown in trust is one of the reason to terminate your contract.
