I was interested to read today that Len McCluskey the leader of Unite the country's largest trade union has been re-elected despite winning the support of less than one in 10 members 1.5 million members..he won 144,000 votes.Methinks instead of cracking open the champagne, joining the internet lynch mobs or downloading a pretty poor protest song to celebrate the death of an 87 year old woman, these so called socialists would have been motivated to get up off there arses and show their support to a Union that pumped £7million into the Labour party's coffers over the last two years.

Nice pic - I was hoping my daughter would be in it (no). She told me after the event that she had gone with some college pals to see the historic occasion and her best friend had thrown eggs at Thatcher. A good waste of an egg if you ask me.

I was one of thousands watching the events as they happened on TV and the police actually pushing back the people as they tried to climb over the fence out of the throng. I will never forget one young chap shouting to a policeman "You're killing us". I know the police maintained the crowd were drunk but as all evidence was supposed to be presented at enquiries I was indignant that no blame was attached to the police or the stadium owners.

As Thatcher wouldn't have been watching the TV but would have relied on other officials to keep her informed I'm of the opinion that she wasn't given the full facts. I know the families say she knew everything but it's only decades later that we've learnt of cover ups.

This is taken from the C.I.A. World Factbook, Lucy, Its always been disputed by 4 countries not just the argies, we occupy the islands, but were they ever ours? Debateable.even Doubtful.

I recall we were given that history lesson at the time and maybe the islanders wouldn't have objected to changing their allegiance if Argentina hadn't been run by an awful dictator.

BTW anyone who saw the TV newsreels of the time couldn't have failed to see the name on several Argentinian buildings of HIGGINS or O'HIGGINS - seems the Irish were there fighting the Spanish and the English

Doubt that very much as the recent referendum would indicate.

But would never do fer us all to think the same way, would be a boring old world.

Agree Galteri or however its spelt, was a complete loony, would have used another word but the swear checker would have me.

Lively debate is one thing & there's always going to be a huge gulf dividing the opinions of folks where ol' Mags is concerned, but pumping out the populist rhetoric of her being a "Nasty Nazi", is quite simply unrealistic.

What I mean is that she was deluded and out of touch with reality to the extent of going a head with the Poll Tax - that lead to her downfall. Ok she was nuthin like a Nasti Nazi - but you get the parallels. She didn't have the brains to get out like Tony Blair did - before being ousted by those below him in the party!

Again Kes, I think it's a matter or perspectives, to some, whatever their reasons real or perceived she was & always will be the Antichrist, a vile spiteful woman. Whereas others see her as a moderniser, a person who believed her actions right for the Country, doing what was needed as opposed to what was wanted by the populace.

Her legacy can still be seen today, good & bad dependent on your outlook, that won't change no matter the outpourings pro or contra about her. Tomorrow, an old woman will be getting buried with a certain amount of pomp & pageantry, the fact that she was Britains first female Prime Minister & a very divisive figure in life & even now in death shouldn't really matter. We can't change human nature, so what will be, will be.
