Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive.
They may well celebrate Chistmas day on a date other than in the West, but I'm pretty sure they still have '12 days of Christmas' which by my maths puts that tree well within the period of their seasonal festivities.

Whatever.
Most Biblical mathematical scholars believe the actual birth of Jesus was in September/Ocotober.
'So, if you have followed the above reasoning, based on the scriptural evidence, a case can apparently be made that Jesus Christ was born on the 15th day of the month of Tishri, on the first day of the Feast of Tabernacles, which corresponds to the September - October timeframe of our present calendar!' What day was Jesus born?
That's for those who believe he truly was the Messiah, and not just a naughty hippy.
Either way, by the 15th January, that Russian tinsel 'n' assorted tat, should have been packed back in the Kremlin loft.

I'm quite sure the Russkies are more than happy to sit around their tree well into their new year, playing chess, drinking vodka and maybe watching a bit of culture on their TV - such as the latest offerings from the Bolshoi or the Kirov. Quite unlike the mental retards we all know in England who are happy to slump down on the settee with a six pack, while gormlessly cheering on the latest performing cabbage on the X Factor or whatever similar drivel on their latest ill-earned 42" Plasma set.

Yes, to a man, Russians are a very cultured nation.
(Unless the potatos used to make their vodka were blackened, and sprouting eyes, in which case they are likely to be uncultured, and a little bit mental.)
Some would argue that the standards at the Bolshoi have slipped, in the post-Glasnost era.

I've looked at those stairs leading to the upper floor, but never used them, just look at the construction, and how they are supported, glass panels at the side holding the treads in place, doesn't look safe to me, so I'm not going up them. Retlaw

I'd struggle too.
So haven't bothered.
The lift's the size of a coffin.
So not too keen on going in their either.

I must admit, I like the mock Victoriana signs. Maybe the theme should be extended further - sprinkle sawdust over the uncovered stone flags....get the butchers to hang some skinned rabbits from their stalls...maybe some pheasants too, well matured so that the maggots are falling out (which means they're just ready to eat). Best of all, maybe all the blokes could walk round the place smoking clay pipes. Lovely!
