Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
it's not the stall holders fault though Mick, it's that Brticliffe persons fault, they need to increase prices so they can pay the extra rent

Obviously with a declared interest in the success of Accrington as a town centre worth visiting I think we should celebrate any awards as a town.
What I would like to know is what were the criteria and who judged it. There's a massive difference between awards given by some trade body and those given by the ones who matter, Joe Public.
I'm also curious how 2011 awards are done in January. Presumably the judging took place on 2010 ?

I don't have an ignore list, I just read peoples posts in order of their importance and interest. I didn't see yours

First off, fair's fair, the renovations are impressive. The ceiling alone is a materpiece of Victorian engineering and design, and it's now in tip top condition.
However, as a shopping experience, the balcony is not as impressive.
First off it's so narrow, it's single file only. Anyone with big hips would need to walk sideways.
The cafe was sparcely populated. Certainly compared to the downstairs ones.
We were the only people, thankfully because of the lack of space, on the walkway.
There are some nice little shops up there.
Sadly there weren't any signs of customers up there though, besides ourselves.
We felt sorry for them. Sitting there, looking bored to death.
If you could use your time there producing goods, to be sold elsewhere as well, fair enough.
If you were relying solely on the takings from sales made in those retail outlets alone, I'd be more than concerned that a living wage could be earned.
I wouldn't want to rent those uptairs units.
I'd want paying, for liberating empty terrain.
Their window displays were attractive, and I wish them well.
Though to survive I fear they'll need more than good wishes.

There are newly painted signs ouside the front entrances, advertising the upstairs businesses.
That's why we went up.
We're suckers for pretty signs.
Anyone with a buggy, meeting another buggy, or a wheelchair, have no chance of passing each other on the walkway.
It'd be like Robot Wars.
Which at least might bring in the crowds downstairs, to watch the carnage.

Re: Market Hall Refurbishment
i'd hate to be shopping with twin babies in Accrington then, it was bad enough taking one baby up there to attempt to find the toilets

No sympathy from me, they had a chance to learn crochetting, this time next year they could have been millionaires!
