Re: May She live long and prosper
So do I, and hope that she passes Victoria's other milestone too - but that makes me feel very old because I always used to think of Victoria as having reigned impossibly long and yet I was alive when our present Queen was crowned!

Re: May She live long and prosper
Well she’s not my queen.
It is high time that the monarchy and the aristocracy that goes with it was ditched and the land owned by them was given back to the people it was stolen from.
Imagine, no lords and dukes etc. No government sleaze in granting peerages.
The monarchy and all the hangers on are a parasite on decent folk struggling to make a decent living.
There should be no monarchy whilst we have one single person living on the streets, the mentally afflicted struggling to survive in a society that is alien to them, old people not getting the medical treatment that they need or having to wait months and even years before help comes their way. People are literally dying to get into hospitals.
And don’t give me that washed up argument that the monarchy is great for the tourist industry. I doubt if one tourist in ten thousand actually sees any of them. Even if they manage it, it will only be a glimpse in a carriage or car or balcony somewhere. In any case the tourists come to see the buildings, mainly from the outside, so whether we have a monarch leech or not it will not affect the tourist figures. The building will still be there and if opened to the public would at least earn enough for their upkeep instead of being yet another burden on the tax payer.
Monarchy! Bah!

Re: May She live long and prosper
If you look Jambutty there is only one official residence that is closed to visitors and that is St James Palace, all the rest open for the public to visit at least 3 days a year.

Re: May She live long and prosper
I have a lot of time for the Queen. I think that she is a hard worker and is devoted to her role as Sovereign.
