Mendleson for the Lords
Peter Mendleson has been appointed by the Government to oversee the trade portfolio.
In thinking of a name for him in his new role....what about 'Lord Peter of Cuckooland'?

Re: Mendleson for the Lords
Must have been offered a good deal to give up his place on the EU gravy train.
However, as he gave up his parliamentary seat to go to Brussels, he will have to be given a seat in the House of Lords. So, this man will be an important member of the government who will take key decisions that will affect us all, yet he has no mandate whatsoever from the electorate.
Truly a modern democracy in action!

Re: Mendleson for the Lords
Mandelson is emminently suited to the House of Lords. He has resigned, twice, from office due to his involvement in the irregular business dealings and financial affairs of his friends. He was also "outed" by Matthew Parris as a Gay man who had, previously, rigorously denied the fact. Just the right sort of chappy to sit with our noble lords, in my opinion.

Don't blame me, I don't have a say in it. If the Upper House were elected by the populace it just might be different.

I can't recall him ever denying his sexuality, he just never spoke about it, until 'outed' by Matthew Parris on Newsnight.
As far as I remember he always voted for gay rights in the House of Commons, which is more than Matthew Parris did when he was in Thatcher's government, from his own little closet.
As for today's news about Mandy's return to government, considering his unpopularity with the public, and all the associated sleaze, I think it shows only one thing, desparation.

Re: Mendleson for the Lords
Although Mandy is resigning his position with the EU, one thing he can look forward to is a very generous pension (at a time when many of us commoners are worrying about the falling value of our own pensions). However, in order to qualify for this, he must agree not to work against the interests of the EU. So, while he is sitting (unelected) in the cabinet of the British government, if it ever comes to a conflict of interests between the UK and the EU, you can guess whose side he'll be on.
