Message from Gail Knight re Panopticon

I have received the following email from Gail Knight. I am quoting it in full so as to be sure I don't misquote her and posting the contents here at her request.

Quote:
As those of you who went to the public meeting last week will be aware, the designer Peter Beard will be unveiling new designs for the proposed Hyndburn Panopticon next week.

From 22nd March to 1st April

New designs will be on display at

Asda, Hyndburn Rd

Accrington Town Hall (exhibition will remain up until 3rd April)

Accrington Central Library

Oswaldtwistle Mills

New Era, Paradise Street

HaworthArtGallery

Hyndburn Sports Centre (café area)

Exhibitions are being put up throughout the day on the 22nd March in all those places. Please check opening times before setting off.

If I have omitted anyone from this email it is not intentional. I trust that someone would be good enough to post this information on the Accrington Web as I would not like to be accused of not notifying you all.

Re: Message from Gail Knight re Panopticon

I have had the same e mail, but unfortunately cannot attend any of the meetings due to being away. Can somebody please go and stamp their feet for me.. or if we have to be saddled with a panopticon please pick a tasteful one on my behalf. Thanks folks, catch you all when I get back.

Re: Message from Gail Knight re Panopticon

Cheers willow, I would be interested in having a look. If I can't get over to see for myself I would appreciate it if someone could pick up any written information produced in connection with the matter.

She obviously reads this web site and knows most of the opinions so why doesn't she take that in to account, or is it just arrogance when you get in to a postion of power.

Re: Message from Gail Knight re Panopticon

It looks like we are going to have a panopticon foist upon us whether we want one or not. There doesn't seem to be any option for "We don't want one"

I'll be away next week but I'm coming back after Easter and will make every effort to get to one of these displays. I shall gather as much info as possible but I don't think there'll be an opportunity for foot stamping which is a pity because I would gladly have had an extra little stamp on your behalf Lettie.

I got the same message and sent her a reply inviting her to join. I won't be holding my breath while I wait to see if she does though.

At least we know who one of our mystery "guests" is now. She obviously reads the forum.

Unfortunatly, I do not have Ms Knights email address. I wonder if someone could possibly enquire of her as to the cost of these exhibitions dotted around Hyndburn?

Power? You realise she is basically a press officer, right? Not much power there I'm afraid! She has nothing to do with where, when and how the panopticons are built!

Re: Gail Knight.
I was not a fan of her column, but l suppose it wasn't really aimed at me. However l do applaud her for being invoved in bringing to The James St. Working Mens Club, such a challenging piece of theatre as The Vagina Monologues. A much needed interjection into the Arts scene in Hynburn, and better than another second rate tribute at The Civic Theatre. Why can't she be involved with bringing public Art to Hyndburn of a higher standard. An artist like Christos really would be a coup.

It looks like we are stuck with Peter Beard.
