Mobile phones in Hospital
It appears that the Government are about to ease restrictions on mobile phones in hospitals, and about time to. At least patients and their families won't get riped off with extortionate charges for using the bedside phones. Mind you the last time I was in dock in September, most people had their phones with them and the staff seemed to turn a blind eye to patients using them.

It's nice to know the NHS is leading the way and showing others that the disabled are employable.

Re: Mobile phones in Hospital
This would have been handy the last time i was in having an op on my back
i was waiting in the theater area for 1 hour with the anesthetist waiting to put me out
i could have phoned my surgeon and asked him to finish his brew as we where waiting
he did call round eventually to tell us they could not do the op and to take me back to the ward where i was given a brew and bacon butty just after finishing it there was a call from theater asking where i was they where waiting for me ,TOO late i had eaten so they sent me home .

Re: Mobile phones in Hospital
It is all good and well allowing people to use mobile phones in hospital(they have been doing for years anyway). But what about the people who don't have or even want a mobile? The pay phones on trolleys should be brought back.

Well Bernie when I was in there were 7 people in the ward where I was 6 had phones, and the one that didn't was suffering from dementia, oh and I was the youngest on the ward too, I have two mobiles and am at home most of the time, I think most people do now have mobiles if only for emergencies

Re: Mobile phones in Hospital
When in A & E last week they let me use my phone to ring my sister to come and pick me up ..... forgot all about turning it off .... was sending texts as well ....
Plus when spuggie was in carlisle he used his to ring me and he used it to get on the net and he was texting me ... even had to get a voucher for him to top it up and i sent him that.

Re: Mobile phones in Hospital
They used to say you couldn't use mobiles in hospitals because of the oxygen in use. Similarly, at petrol stations, it was the fumes. And why was that? Because "a spark" from your mobile could ignite the gases.
So, when did your mobile last spark?

Good.
My hubby's going into Burnley for an op soon so I won't need to pack him off with bags of coins for the phone.
He can text me to his heart's content too.

If that was the case West Ender I'd be in bother most days, I use my phone for texting nearly every day and I'm always on oxygen. Think the main concern was that mobiles interfered with equipment, I know they did in the very early days, because there was a bloke on E3 at Queens Park who had one of those brick phones brought in so he could contact his clients, it set the Fire Alarms off three times

They did not seem to mind me using it at all. If they had said anything they would have been told in no uncertain terms I needed to use it . Thing is its all well and good having those extortionate public phones but I keep all my numbers on my mobile so having it powered off would mean no contact with anyone. The other option would have been to pinch a wheel chair and head for the door. Wouldnt tell anyone were I was going either n that would have started something.

They actually mentioned the oxygen/phone "problem" in the NHS literature about local hospital admission here, about 10 years ago, believe it or not. It was at around the same time as the urban myth about the chap filling his car's petrol tank when his mobile rang and - whoooosh! Nobody ever knows where that petrol station was.

In that case why have power points with plugs?? Get a spark out of them more often than your mobile phone.

Thats not the reason.
In fact they tried to blow up a caravan full of petrol fumes with more than 10 mobiles ringing inside it on Brainiac
