More about wheely bins...

As the dark nights set in, a thought came into my head. If the council own the wheely bins and I injure myself putting their bin out, could I sue them? and are they insured against residents injuring themselves when using council property.
I then thought, how can you be fined for leaving your bin out, as it is`nt your bin. Surely by taking the bins in you are doing the council a favour!
Finally, if your bin gets lost and you have to buy a new bin, then it`s your property and you can remove any chips thereon.
Food for thought or a load of rubbish.

Not sure on this but another thought is, note to binmen
"It's your bin, when you have emptied it, if you don't want it getting damaged or stolen put it back in my garden, I won't take any responsibility for it if you don't"

Even if its your's or not, you commited the offence by leaving it out, eg you will get fined for speeding or parking offences in a hired or borrowed car

Good point, if we bought our own anyway to bypass the chip system would they empty them? prob charge you

Yes i was under that impression too .... so even if you bought your own to beat the chip system they are still obliged to empty it ,

Yeah, but I meant they would add an additional charge for emptying "your" bin

I presume we must have entered into some sort of contractual agreement with the council, were the public are liable for any injuries resulting from moving 'their' wheelie bins.

On a serious note, Hyndburn Borough Council do have a system for collecting people's wheelie bins, if they can't put it out for collection on the correct day themselves.

No I don't use the system myself....yet.

Also please note I said something positive about HBC, thus making me not their biggest knocker....just a big t*t.

There was nothing in it this week. The Observer must not have liked the press release from HBC.
