Re: Moss side.

I haven't heard anything about people from Moss Side being moved to Accrington, haven't seen anything in the Manchester Evening News. I can't see what point there would be in such a move. The area isn't being redeveloped on a massive scale and there isn't a shortage of jobs in Manchester. The place looks very run-down and seedy but they don't move people for that reason.

Where did the story originate?

Re: Moss side.

The original information came from people living in the afore mentioned area apparently it has been happening for some while! But as you say I can't see the point unless its to do with different areas having surplus accomodation quotas for this special relocation.

Re: Moss side.

You may be right, lampman. They did something like it with Liverpool 40 years ago when they moved people out of the city to Runcorn, though that's a lot nearer than Accy is to Manchester. They purpose-built loads of estates in Runcorn and they must have looked very attractive when they were first built (with one or two very noteable exceptions). The trouble is a lot of them didn't stay nice for very long. In Liverpool, however, they were knocking down whole streets of what they called slums and making Runcorn into a dormitory town. I used to go to Runcorn very regularly, in my job, and there were certain estates I would never have gone near in the dark (still wouldn't). Some areas are OK, though, and some have gone through the "rough" and come out very decent.

You'll know if you meet anyone from Moss Side. They'll tell you they've come from Manchistah.
