Re: Mother's Day.

My lads had already bought me a new top and necklace, and when I got in this morning there was a card behind the door (they were stopping at their dads) for Mother's day. They have gone to their grandma's (dads mum) which I endorsed so I could have a chill out day after a heavy night

My mum is fantastic, she is due back from her hols tomorrow, but I have sent her a text and she knows I think she is the best mum ever

Re: Mother's Day.

I got up at 6:30 am for work

But it was made nicer by the fact that my eldest son got up at 7:20am just before i went to work and gave me his card that he had made at school.....( he's a real sweety).

I got home from work at 2pm and received, 1 box of choccies, I bottle of wine, a bottle of Hugo Purple perfume and cards.... spoiled rotten.

Hope you enjoyed Whitby, Margaret. I lived there for 6 years in the 1960s, one of the best places in England, and I loved it. Oh, but there's no village called Aidensfield. They film it in Goathland.
Yes, West Ender....I know it is Goathland really.......but we all think of it as Aidensfield. No filming going on there today.
We had a fabulous day.....and although it was very cold we had the loveliest sunshine....no snow....no rain......a bit blustery......and the wind nearly blew Ma and the chair into the Harbour...true words and jest spring to mind.
We had a lovely lunch in Trenchers and got back home for about 7:30....a long day but thoroughly enjoyed by both of us.

What's everyone's take on how commercial Mothers Day is?
In answer to your question......in past years I have made my mum a card........done her picture albums and discs of the places we have visited each time we have gone on a trip.......done a Journal for her......all very personal gifts with very little financial outlay....and of no interest or use to any other mother.

This year I bought her a couple of books that she wanted.......and we took the trip to Whitby......we had our lunch out, but we would have been doing that anyway. So I don't feel that our celebration of Mothering Sunday was particularly commercialised.

Re: Mother's Day.

Mothers Day happened to fall on my son, Harry's, 1st Birthday. We went for a meal to celebrate both.

Harry got me a lovely card and a big Me to You teddy, and some daffodils. I got my Mum some flowers and a herb growing set (she likes that sort of thing) Grandma got Shea Body Butter.

I'd have loved to chill but Harrys not old enough to run around for me yet. Lol!! At least nobody had to cook. Am spending today putting his toys together, and sticking all the stickers on.

Hope everyone else had a brilliant day.

My daughter in Law - Saturday night - she's a very intelligent woman, a computer consultant, and not usually a "dizzy" blonde (she is blonde, though). Two men come into the restaurant, both wearing Leprachaun hats.

"Look at them", says d-i-l.

"Well they're probably Irish. It's St Patrick's day today", says son.

"Oh, I never knew that was the day before Mother's Day", says d-i-l.

Re: Mother's Day.

Was down at my sisters after work today - dropping off an invitation for her and her 2 sons were there - she was at work. Youngest upstairs watching tv, playstation etc. Eldest who was 18 a couple of weeks ago was downstairs and being the liberated 18 was having a can of fosters with his mates and his big auntie jen walked in!!! Anyway i made him make me a brew and asked him what he got his mum for mothers day. He said i made her cry! What did you do said i. He said i didnt buy her a card so i wrote her a poem instead and it was really nice thanking her for the last 18 yrs etc. He read it out to me and it was really soppy. I said what did your brother get her he said he made her breakfast in bed! Now he's 14 and dangerous with it!!! He made me a butty one day - ham & tomato - whats wrong with that you ask - it was 2 slices of bread with butter 1/2 inch thick on it and then the tomato was cut into 4 slices and it was a big big tomato!!! The slices were at least 1 cm thick. So sis was looked after on mums day. Havent seen the other one yet so dont know what she got.
