My army career - update

Well for those of you who care. I had been considering joining the army for ages and a few month ago sent off an application form. Didnt get a reply so went to see them at the careers office in blackburn, after a brief chat i was booked in for my BARB test next thursday. All i need to do now is decide which job in the army id like to do (harder than it sounds). At the moment im leaning towards being a driver as atleast then i get to do something i know ill enjoy. Anyways ill keep this topic updated as and when things change.

Re: My army career - update

Cheers. Been talking to a few lads at work who have been in the army and none of them have a bad word to say about it. And after hearing some the stories from thier experiences its made me more determined to get in. Not too worried about the BARB test as that seems fairly straight forward, but think i need to stay off the beer for a while as my fitness is at an all time low, so going to start eating healthy and doing as much exercise as i can. Think it will do me good because one of the lads at work said it completly changed his outlook on life and gave him confidence he never knew he could have.

Re: My army career - update

Lol, i have a lot of work to do then. I have stopped having a fry-up for dinner at work, im now a jacket potato addict (with tuna and sweetcorn....mmmm). Probably start going for a jog early in the morning and just push myself a little more each day. Dont want to rush into and do too much at once though, be gutted to injure myself before i even get in the army.

Re: My army career - update

Go for it Son.
I did 12 years in the army and I do not regret one minute of it. I served in Hong Kong and Malaya for 6 years and the rest of the time in UK postings.
You will meet people from all walks of life and this will add to your education but be prepared to have a haircut of a lifetime.
If the Sergeant Major walks behind you and say's your hair is too long be prepared for a crop.............only cost me a shilling in my day......that's 5p
4 up the back....one up the sides..............that's your haircut.
The barber did 45 in one hour.
Keep your nose clean (You will find out what this expression means when you enlist) Keep on the right side of the Sergeant Major (Who is God)
Listen to everything that is being said to you and take it in.
Good luck and best wishes

Re: My army career - update

There are loads of jobs in the Army, I had a look at it myself because there are legal careers after my degree if I wanted to do that. There is more choice than what people think.

I know someone who went into the RAF and hates the fact that he's now a HGV driver though, and I don't quite see the appeal of such a job, but if thats what you want to do then you should go for it.

a doorman mate of mine was in the army and he quit due to ill health cause of the weight of the backpacks they make u carry - he still isnt fully sorted

I have no problems with the army other than their advertising campaigns.
