Nation to Choose Anthem for Commonwealth Games

Nation to choose anthem for Commonwealth Games from
'God Save The Queen' -
'Jerusalem' -
'Land Of Hope And Glory'...
what do you think?
'God Save The Queen' covers the whole of the United Kingdon so maybe one of the others may be more suitable on this occasion...'Land Of Hope And Glory' would be my choice...SF

Hmm, tough one.

On balance, I think that God Save The Queen is the more appropriate choice. Land of Hope and Glory is pretty much England's theme.

As each country in the UK is seperate for the Commonwealth Games, the Scots will have Scotland the Brave, the Welsh will have Shaun the Sheep, we should have our own, Land of Hope & Glory for me, Jerusalem is too churchy

Land of Hope and Glory, very closely followed by Jerusalem

Better that 'England' be in the lyrics-
so the chorus from - There'll always be an England

So is Jerusalem, and as people would probably sing along to it ... cannot see many people hitting those top notes..

I think maybe Lancsdave could be right that it will be marketed as being in England .. or will it ? Will have to google. If it is, everyone loves 'Land of Hope and Glory'. Otherwise, 'God save the Queen' ... except many religious so and so's may see it as an insult do you think ? Might have to change it to 'Allah save the Queen'..

Niot sure what you mean but I suspect there are some people confusing Commonwealth Games and Olympic Games. In the Commonwealth games we enter as England, in the Olympic Games we are Great Britain. The Commonwealth games this year are in India

Re: Nation to Choose Anthem for Commonwealth Games

It is the Commonwealth Games - as far as I m aware she is still the Queen of the Commonwewalth. Therefore God Save the Queen does seem to be the most appropriate. However, I would still opt for Land of Hope and Glory, very closely followed by Jerusalem. I am English second - Lancastrian first, the Palatine County

Totally baffled by this post. Which nation to choose?...the host nation? The 2010 games are, as Dave says, in India, so I can't see them choosing any of those. The 2014 Games are in Scotland and the same applies! What are you on about?

Perhaps Grange meant '[Our] nation [is about] to choose [its] anthem for [use in the] Commonwealth Games'?

Of course I could be, and probably am completely wrong.

Any road, given the choice it'd be Land of Hope and Glory for me, as long as there's a rather large suffix of [sic] after the title!
