Do you think it's beiong done to regenerate the area ? I say it's being done to drop people off nearer to Tesco's, which in my view would be dropping them off on the wrong side of town

Re: New bus station
Are there more bus services (routes) from the Town Centre than there were in the early
'50s. In those days Melbourne St handled all the Ribble Services, Blackburn started from Union St (?) and all Accrington Services started from Peel St. The only exception I can remember is that all Rossendale services (no matter which bus company, including Accrington Corp) started from the Town Hall. The one location that I haven't a clue about is the Blackburn Tram start point. The system seemed to work well then, and surely the old adage - If it ain't broke, don't fix it - still applies.

Here you go, pick the bones out of this, then, give us a synopsis.
http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa...L_DOCUMENT.pdf
It may take some time to download, depends on your Broadband.

Re: New bus station
Just ploughed through it Less, wonder what the cost of production was, perhaps someone will tell us?
IMHO there is a lot of BS surrounded by many "In" words and the whole document could have been shortened by simplification. As for providing a synopsis, I not only do not have the time, I didn't understand a large percentage of it
I hate to think what the cost of implementation ad co-ordnation will cost - of course that will no doub mean bringing in external expert resources.

As well as the near half million quid bung for landscaping, Tesco 'donated', subject to their planned store being passed of course, a similar amount towards the relocation of the bus station.
'Tesco has also agreed to give £412,000 towards a landscaped open space between the store and the railway station.'
'A further £450,000 has also been pledged towards schemes such as Accrington’s new bus and station.'
£32m Accrington Tesco plan given go-ahead (From Lancashire Telegraph)
It's amazing what you can get past the planning committee, if you wave enough money around as a sweetner.
I'm sure Tesco's will flourish, at the expense of the existing retail businesses in Accrington town centre, who will now be further isolated, away from the public transport system.
Still, half a million quid will buy quite a few flowers and plants, so it sure will look mighty pretty.

Re: New bus station
Hey Less, thanks a bunch. Although too long and drawn out for me, there are some rather intesting points.
http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa...L_DOCUMENT.pdf
go to page 42 and read points 7.25/7.26/7.27 and scroll down a bit to page 43, and there, for all to see, under the heading
7. POLICIES, is a sketch of the proposed new bus station. Didnt realised they have owt like this planned for us!
Also posting interesting points off this same document re train station and Pennine Square (where? are you asking?)

Re: New bus station
It's been 7 years now. The Council won't sell the land to LCC unless LCC pay a premium plus costs for Peel Street.
My view is that Councillor Britcliffe has a personal and prejudicial interest and one way or another his decisions have scuppard the scheme.
Funding is government dependent now within The Pennine Reach.
TLofTC's objection to that scheme has stopped the bus station too.
Can't see any of it happening post general election. Our chance went 04 to 09, those 5 years.

This is a shame to miss such an opportunity ... we need to move on, and make the town more appealing to visitors .. which Peel Street doesn't. Cllr. Britcliffe's crack pot idea (as I mentioned in another thread) re. turning Peel Street into another Car Park rather than the suggested Pennine Square suggests your observations may not be far out ...
