New Community Newspaper for Hyndburn

We are about to launch a brand new, community newspaper covering the Hyndburn area.

We aim to provide local news and affordable advertising. The newspaper will be a colour tabloid and it will be given away free in supermarkets, public buildings, pubs to name but a few.

The newspaper will be edited by me, Paul Vaughan, aged 27. I lived in Hyndburn until I was 17 when I moved to Blackburn. I now live less than half a mile outside the Hyndburn boundaries and I still have many friends in the area.

The Hyndburn Independent has already secured advertising deals with a number of organisations and now we need help from Accy Web visitors in finding local stories. We are particularly interested in local history items and local events. If you know of any local events or anything of us interest to readers please contact us either by email: [email protected] or ring me on 01254 245709.

Good Luck to The Hyndburn Independent from Grange Bowling Club. We hope that your new venture will be very successful and that the people of Hyndburn will support you.

That is the problem with free newspapers and the reasons ours will be put out through Shops, libraries etc.
We also have hand held terminals that prove that our deliver staff are delivering them to the outlets.

Good luck with the newspaper. It is something that I have wanted to do for years (except mine would be more of a glossy magazine - a local based rival to Chat/More etc)

As an active fan of the football club, and one who would like to see more column inches given to StanleY, I'd like to see some kind of human interest stories related to them. Not advertisements or match report per se, but a who's who, fan of the week etc.

That is a really good idea, we will have a think about that. Stanley are working with us on this and they will be writing a monthly column.

What newspapers have you been involved with before Paul? Just asking as I wondered if you had ever been involved with the observer or anything like that.

No, I have never been involved with the Observer. We currently produce the Blackburn and Ribble Independents, the first of which we started nearly 3 years ago.

Neither are we a gazette, we concentrate on local news and views. We are not subsidised and affordable advertising is our only source of income.
