Err...there is a difference between arrest and being formally charged. If the latter does not occur between now and when she is due to appear before the parliamentary committee, then MP's will be free to ask whatever they want.

yep but on grounds it may prejudice the police inquiries, she will decline to answer no doubt.

In that case she will be in contempt of parliament, so if they really want they can have her locked up there and then. My guess is that she has been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to undertake illegal activity (phone hacking or whatever under the relevant law) and as such she will be freed pending further enquiries. That means that however much she tries to wriggle out, the sub-judice rules do not apply.

Anyway, the next on the hit-list is Stevenson. Will he still be in post by tuesday? Or will it take till next weekend?

Re: News of the World Mobile Phone Hacking

lets face it there are plenty of ways Cameron can protect her without direct involvement .He can publicly condemn her and have minions carry out actions to shield her.

i doubt she will get so much as a slapped wrist by the end of all this and that those in power are hoping they can ride the storm merely appeasing the public until the fuss dies down and another story takes over.

like all scandals unless they happen very close to election day they soon get forgotten when it comes to election day

Cameron's problem is that he inherited a situation where the News International executives had infiltrated the higher echelons of government through friendships with prime ministers, getting tacky invites to barbecues at each others houses and wangling "sleepovers" at Chequers.

The pictures of him kissing Rebekah Brooks on both cheeks at some dodgy looking party or other must now be giving him nightmares, because he was so blatantly manipulated, as were his predecessors Blair and Brown.

He just happened to be holding the parcel when the music stopped. We shouldn't necessarily blame him, as long as he continues to admit that the relationships had got too close and must be swept away.

My guess is that several high up politicians of all colours are not sleeping very well at the moment.
Will we ever know the truth why the police stopped investigating the case?
Did they found out some disturbing facts and were told to put the case to bed?

So whose fault is that? Reporters for trying to find out stories or the MP's etc that accepted all the free lunches or whatever?
Do you think this involves one media company or a few of them?
