BBC NEWS | Magazine | End of the High Street hunter-gatherer?

Who knew anything about this? I didnt. Why hold this a month before christmas when everyone (well nearly everyone) are out buying their christmas pressies. Wouldnt it be better holding it Feb/March time. By the way no i went down accy.

I have to admit that I knew nothing about it, but have (inadvertently) not shopped today......but only because it has been so wet and miserable.

Re: No shopping day!

Most days are No Shopping days for me 'cause I don't like shopping. I shop online, where possible, but it's more economical with the p & p to get everything I need in 1 transaction so, apart from groceries from Sainsburys, it's not too frequent.

My daughter loves shopping and so, by default, does my granddaughter. When an advert for the Trafford Centre came on TV, earlier this evening, I remarked that I haven't been there at all this year (it's only 15 miles from here). Laura looked at me with surprise and said she couldn't count how many times she and mummy had been, which is true.

I just can't see the attraction in wandering round dozens of shops, all selling more or less the same things, with aching feet. I don't like crowds and I get annoyed if I can't find what I want straight away.

Re: No shopping day!

i dont like shopping for my self and ususally come back with stuff for the kids. i like buying them stuff.. i can go out all day with £100 and come back with £90. usually after buying some fags and lunch. i hate spending money on my self and see things i like but think, i could buy buy clothes or toys or summat for the kids with this money! apparently i am wierd tho because i only have 1 pair of trainers, 1 pair of boots and 1pair of comfy flat shoes. and only one handbag!i cant justify spending money on my self when it could be spent on the kids.....

Re: No shopping day!

Soon we will have a day for everything ... mothers, fathers, secretaries, serial killers ... what I most object to is that my birthday falls on international aids awareness day, or some sh*t like that, it's not that I'm politically incorrect, I would have been PO'd just as much if it had been international syphillis day. Jeesh!!!
