I never do sleep very well but this week is so bad. They are re-surfacing the main road and start work at eleven in the evening until six the next morning.

Not such a problem you might think as I don´t work so a good lie in would be ok......except that the new work on the empty site next door starts at half seven and goes on until five in the afternoon.

I´m really wrecked and it has only been a few days. It appears that this will last for months. The worst of it is the digger things which beep everytime they reverse. Just like a continual alarm clock going off in your head.

You could be right Cashman, ´im indoors is sound asleep after his whiskey. He was asking me what the problem was earlier today. I have a brandy to take to bed. I really want to sleep!

What about people with children?

I'm sure most people would put up with it for a night or two, but for months?

It would drive you mad.

Start a protest group. Make placards, march on the Town Hall, or even chain yourself to a digger.

It probably isn´t helping that we are having strange weather at the moment. It´s very hot and sticky for November and the wind from Africa is bringing as much dust as the building site! Everyone is sneezing and snuffling.

Oh well, shutters and windows closed and it seems the blokes are off for their brandy break, happen I might get to sleep before they start off again.

Off at a tangent..........I met a really nice bloke from Chorley today.

Oh that sounds awful. It drives me up the wall when my neighbour is drilling and hammering during the day but I realise it has to be done. It must be terrible not to be able to sleep at night for noise too.

I know you said the placards at the Town Hall idea isn't on over there but are there any neighbours similarly affected and how are they coping?

I´m not sure if it was the brandy or just sheer exhaustion but I did manage to sleep for most of the night.

My neighbour did ring the Police at the beginning of the week but it seems that the work has to be done and it´s better done at night. We´ll just have to grin and bear it.

Brandy sales are set to rise in Tenerife!!
