North v South

I'm not too sure how it happens but it seems that the folk in our local bar always take sides, the Northerners against the Southerners.

Tonight's 'discussion' was centered on George Formby and I insisted that he had a ukelaleh, pardon the spelling, which was round. The Southern crowd say that it was like a small guitar. I've done a search but it seems a little conflicting.........someone help me out!!

not sure myself, but leaning on a lampost at the corner of the street waiting for a lady would get you nicked these days!

H e sang a song(with my little uekalalie in my hand )... it was round and looked more like a tamborine shape.. so it wasent a guitar..

He played both types of instruments that you describe.

It's in another thread as well, but his wife was a clog dancer from Accrington.

My Grandfather was a clog dancer in Accrington too and my Nan loved the George Formby films...........thanks for your help. Don't think I'm going to win the argument but at least I can agree to differ.

ok.. calm down.. he did play both instruments ,and was a pretty good banjo player but didn't like to admit from what i've been told

What is it with the southerners knocking our local northern heros.

I would take at southern folk hero's but cant think of any.
