You have a way with words Dave. I was just thinking that hooglians sounded like something out of Gulliver's Travels when along you come with thugling - another wonderful coining which sounds just right for Cashy and Co., especially when you describe them as genteel and aged - just like one of your whiskies!

I don't think they're from anywhere particular Sue, it's just something we grew up with. Folk mispronouncing things to make them less severe or a genuine slip, but they tend to stick in the mind & we still use them in our crowd.
Aye, I suppose the Cashmeister & Wynn are comparable to Whiskies in a way, a tad cheeky at first, then warming & mellow, companionable & somewhat moreish. (All in a Blokey, lets have a pint & go the game sort of way mind)

You may not be panicking today, but the time for doing so will not be far off. Read the planning submission again and the stuff about the pub not being - nor likely to be - commercially viable. And why the need for detailed archchitect's plans if the proposal for change of use is only a possibility?
Still, if I move back to Accy I'll maybe buy one of them flats and you and Cashy can come round for a few jars before the game. That, of course, is if Stanley is still at the Crown. Maybe a move away from there would be the tipping point for the Oaklea to call last orders for the last time.

That'll do me, Mr T. At least I'll be sure of getting some decent ale!

Personally, I think it's a tragedy when any pub closes and there are various reasons for that happening (which are for another thread).
Still, if the pub does get turned into flats then at least that is better than being turned into a fast food takeaway, a planning application I have just seen for another building further down Whalley Road. No more of these outlets should be allowed and if HBC has any sense it should start shutting down the existing ones on health grounds.
