Re: Odeon Cinema Accrington

When did the flicks in the town centre close?

I remember that Monday night was half price night, in the early eighties. One Tuesday morning, half of Moorhead were wandering round uttering the phrase, "He's not the messiah. He's a very naughty boy!" 'cos it seemed that half of the schol was crammed in there to watch The Life of Brian.

Don't let's get into a quoting war, Simon, or I'll be rummaging round in the loft, seeking out my VHS copy of LoB.

What you quote there is without doubt the funniest scene from the film. The part that John Cleese plays as the officious Stoning Officer was pure class.

Re: Odeon Cinema Accrington

The door on the left side of the cinema led upstairs to the PICKWICK restaurant which i think opened after the cinema closed. I remember going in there one night with some friends, the waitress put a gravy boat at the end of the table after she had served our steaks i poured everyone some gravy out only to discover that the gravy boat contained vineger, the lighting was very subdued. When we complained we were told that if you had been regulars you would have known we always serve vineger in a gravy boat. We asked for a refund for our spoiled meal and were escorted off the premises by a police man with a very large dog. (WE DID NOT BECOME REGULARS) instead we finished our nights with a meal in the cafe at Barnes street chippy and it was very good.

I remember it well......aaah. And the sunken gardens......well before woolies and M&S were built on the site........the Odeon that I remember was well before the Pickwick days. There were quite a few picture places..... let me think. Ritz, Prince's, Empire, Palace, Kings Hall(otherwise known as the bug hut)......I'm sure if I have missed any you'll remind me.
