Thats ridiculous!

How on earth did they manage that??

What does it say to other alcohol selling companies?

Break the law and we'll get our licence back after a few weeks!

Great

Re: off license

if you can have your car crushed for not having it taxed or insured then it seems only fair that a shop selling booze to underaged people should be shut down because a licence can also be given to a family member and the shop can continue trading booze

Re: off license

I wouldn't mind but since they had their licence taken away, they have been coming to our shop and everyone of them that have tried their luck have been turned away

It was also on the radio that the alcohol selling companies got praised after they did test purchases on 10 different companies in Accrington (not too sure who) and they all passed with flying colours so why would they want to go back to allowing these people to sell to underage people

Re: off license

You have to be 18 to buy alcohol, but if you dont look 21 you will be asked to show some ID.
That is how it works at the co-op.

For goodness sake giving them back the licence is madness, they must know the kids aren't eighteen

Re: off license

Does anyone actually know the reason that they had their licence returned. Is this the “two strikes” initiative in action ?

Re: off license

It's 21 says they have to appeal to the magistrates - which is what they have done, and up to the appeal they can serve. His shutters are still down. The network of residents is already aware and we are all gearing up up for Round 3.

I have lodged a complaint persuant of supplying false information at the review hearing which it is indicated, could be a criminal matter. We went through the names of the supporters and their addresses and crossed checked them with the electoral roll. Several were false e.g. A Mr Hibbitt lived at my house 69 Hodder Street and was in support of it staying open. Howard Bee, the Licensing Officer has welcomed the evidence and will investigate.

The problem is now is he may seem unlikely to regain his licence. So he may take the view he can break all the laws he wants to clear his stock as it's a dead duck. The appeal buying him time.

His own solicitor apologised for his client and admitted he had behaved disgracefully. Asif Javed tried then to transfer the license to two people at the back. When asked if they were relatives he confessed. Should have been a fresh application anyway.

I spoke with the police, grim faces all round.
