I actually find a Country with a Mixed and Diverse population interesting & although this originated 4 years ago, feel that not only the indigenous population here, but also genuine immigrants might find this to be true, we bagsied this place first, fit in or at least allow us our own tainted view as well as yours.

Am I right in presuming that "genuine immigrants" are those that come to Britain in order to take advantage of the opportunities to make a better life for themselves and their families, and not to abuse the system and the country that took them in? In other words, they come to settle down, not agitate the faeces.

I wouldn't call 11 am bright and early

... but I usually do my clearest thinking just after I hop out of the shower and down my first cup of coffee

11 a.m.? I thought that was a rumour put about by people with weak bladders, I have had regret to notice 11 p.m. on occasion, (damn the British licensing hours)!

And there are millions in Quebec who would agree. As this thread began with a look at what Australia is thinking and doing, it wouldn't be too much of a wander to look at la belle province. In 2007, Premier Jean Charest announced the setting up of "a commission tasked with consulting Quebec Society on the matter of arrangements regarding cultural divesrsity" .... that might seem like a mouthful, but the important part of his announcement was to reaffirm the "Three Fundamental Values of Quebec Society:

1. Equality between men and women.

2. Primacy of the French language. (Understandable, given the history and demographics of Quebec, and the Federal govt's recognition of Quebec as a "distinct society within Canada").

3. Separation of State and Religion.

Although the second of these fundamental values doesn't seem to apply to the British situation, it does point to the power a govt. should have to determine important aspects of what it means to be a citizen. The other two have implications that I don't think need too much elaboration.

Australia does, indeed, have a chequered past in relation to the aboriginal population and it still has a long way to go to make amends. That said, however, I commend their attitude of zero tolerance of those who seek to destroy the way of life that Australia has built.

This country gives rein to the ravings all kinds of evil-intentioned fanatics and even contemplates that we should change our Civil laws to accomodate those of a religious sect. It's not PC, it's madness.

yep n america belongs to the red indians, thats all history sad though it may be, the point to me is "NOW" someone trying to invoke a law alein to a countrys own. so therefore summat can be done if the ones in power actually act.
