Oh, but there's more!

When I first wrote on this subject back in June, The council's projected overspend for this year was said to be approaching £140,000. A lot of money by anyones standard.
"Barking "Britcliffe, whose ignorance of basic mathematics appears to be matched only by his arrogance announced in this week's Observer that, "The finances of the council have never been subjected to such rigour as thay have over the past twelve months".
Leaving aside such nit picking considerations as 'If not, why not?' and 'Maybe if they had been we would not be in this mess.' Councillor John Griffiths said "We have managed to pull our reins in but a lot more work still needs to be done." (I don't know about you, but I always feel suspicious of people who mangle their metaphors.)

It comes as something of a surprise therefore to hear that, despite all this rein pulling and severe economic scrutiny, the projected overspend is now estimated to be £169,000. It has actually increased by £30,000 since June.

Run a council? On the present showing this lot would have difficulty running a bath!
